Oh what a night

Last night, my Dad and I attended the Firestone Indy 200 at the Nashville Superspeedway where I snapped the above photo. We had passes that allowed us access to a restricted section of the pit area before the race. I snapped a few photos but not much was going on at the time that we were down there. We didn’t want to miss the start of the race so we left before anything significant was going on.

Like I said, we did not want to miss the start of this race. However, Mother Nature had other plans. Immediately after the driver introductions concluded, it began to rain. It began as light rain but then the sky opened up and dumped heavy rain on the racetrack for what seemed like 30 minutes or more. Track drying efforts began and within minutes of the track being dry, it began to rain once again. The rain stopped and started twice more before race officials decided to call it a night.

It was decided to run the race at noon today which didn’t allow us to return due to a prior family commitment. We didn’t want to miss the race but I am glad we decided to keep our plans with the family as it turned out to be a great day. We will just have to wait until next year to see the Indy Cars race here in Nashville. Hopefully the man upstairs will shine on us with more favorable weather.
