Quote for the day:

  • The virtue of the camera is not the power it has to transform the photographer into an artist, but the impulse it gives him to keep on looking. -Brooks Atkinson, 1951, “Once Around the Sun”
  • I can certainly identify with the above quote from photographer Brooks Atkinson. I am so much more aware of my surroundings when I have my camera with me. I do not even have to have the viewfinder to my eye. Just the fact that I am out with my camera and looking for potential images allows me to see so much more around me. I also find that I can realize this heightened sense of awareness if I do not have my camera when I am simply in “scouting mode”. This is one of my favorite things about being a photographer.

    1. I find that the longer I’ve been playing with photography, the harder it is to turn off “scouting mode”. I think that’s why it’s important to try and always have a camera on hand
